Helpful Options & Positive Energy 4 those affected by Multiple Sclerosis

August 1, 2009 Meeting Newsletter

WE CAN DO IT!

This meeting was a reminder of life’s uncertainties and how sometimes you just have to adapt. Somehow we didn’t communicate with the church so when we got there the doors were locked and we couldn’t get through to anyone sooooooooo we re-evaluated our situation and needs.

We had some food & materials for posters and it was pretty warm so we moved a picnic table into the shade, got out our food & supplies and got to know each other a little better. As in the past, our conversations always become interesting.

Becky Stevens was there just two weeks after having a brain tumor removed! She was doing great and certainly provides us with an ultimate example of moving forward in spite of obstacles. What an inspiration from this positive, happy person.

Marci is new so we got to know her a bit. How else would we have known she was diagnosed 35 years ago and since then was married and lived in Hawaii for a time. David shared with us that he & his daughter are going to Japan in a couple of months & Marci said that she was in Japan many years ago so she gave him a few pointers. We also learned from David that his house is now totally solar, he is off the grid and loves it!

Sally discussed the free kayak tours at Whiskeytown Lake that they offer for the disabled. It sounds fun and Marcia has gone on it and says she would do it again. They do it on Friday evenings and one early morning so if anyone is interested let us know and we’ll put a group together. There is no doubt that some of us will do it for sure.

All in all it was a good gathering even as we started melting one by one. When life hands you lemons you make lemonade.

We will not have our usual meeting in September because of the free breakfast Seminar Saturday, August 29th at the Hilton Garden Inn, sponsored by MS Active Source. The featured speaker is Stanley L. Cohan, MD, PhD who is the Medical Director at the Pacific Northwest Multiple Sclerosis Center in Portland, Oregon. Call 1-866-955-9999 to register.

Be the best you can be,
Patricia & Sally
