April 5th Meeting Newsletter
Dr. Bailey Smith told us: “Your Mother was right, eat your vegetables!”
As a part of the triangle of “getting your life back” that we began last time with Dr. Kevin Smith and his upper cervical care we presented Dr. Bailey Smith who is also a cervical care practitioner. Kevin performs the adjustments to restore proper nerve function and Bailey is passionate about nutrition and exercise.
She impressed us with her energy and knowledge of the body and the way it absorbs food & nutrients to use as fuel and building blocks to promote a healthy existence. Common sense backed up with science. We enter this world with bodies that have a natural ability to heal themselves. Along with that the earth provides us with so many colorful and healthy natural foods meant to maintain this state. Somewhere back in time we decided to be creative and process so many foods for a number of reasons, which led the cells of our bodies down a less healthful path. Our bodies have been forced to work overtime for essential nutrients creating environments allowing disease to thrive. In light of that, we can still improve our conditions with proper diet.
We must eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Also, if possible eat protein every few hours. With protein in the system you are actually burning more calories in the digestive process than with many other foods that end up as excess and just stored as fat! Interesting to note also is that many grains (wheat in particular) are actually often inflammatory and agitate inflammatory diseases such as MS. This is such a huge topic and Bailey presented a very interesting concept…one that she uses successfully with her family of six. They eat their dessert first (usually fruit) which gets the digestive process revved up, then on to the main meal (often stir fry on rice), and finish it off with a big salad to move everything else along! The kids accept it partly because of dad Kevin’s saying “There’s always room for salad!” It is hard to ignore the wellspring of vitality that these folks exude. Again, Drs. Smith can be eached at Upper Cervical Health Center of Redding 222-5799.
You may remember a couple of years ago when we had Cindy Wilburn talk to us. She went to the exteme of eating only raw healthy foods, but her MS went completely away and she has never looked back.
We are all products of our conditioning and change is not easy. Neither is MS. We must look at some of this seriously and try some improvement on our own. This is our own individual “cross to bear” and it becomes increasingly evident that we must take responsibility where we can. Our bodies are compomised so they require a little extra TLC. We need to eat well. We need to exercise. We need to keep our weight down. We need a healthy mental attitude. We must respect ourselves enough to do these things and to know that we have done the best we can.
Our next meeting will be May 3rd and will be a roundtable so that we can share experiences, questions or whatever! We will have some upper cervical stories as well.
In the meantime….Be Well!
