Helpful Options & Positive Energy 4 those affected by Multiple Sclerosis

Mmm, mmm, ooh, mmm….

Our guest Theresa May from The Antidote Massage Therapy came to our meeting and gave mini massages throughout the entire meeting to those lucky enough to be in line. Theresa has magic hands that just seem to find their way to areas needing attention. She also finds tender pressure points that, when massaged, release toxins and free the body’s jammed energy flow. Everyone who had a massage came away saying that she found this spot or another and now things were working again. It was truly a nice experience and such a positive thing for our overly stressed bodies . Theresa has selflessly offered her services in the past at MS Walks and we thank her for her contributions! Anyone interested can contact Theresa at 941-3823.

We had roundtable discussions and as usual we were not lacking for things to talk about. One discussion was about one of our friends in a scooter who went to the Chevron Station on Eureka Way for gas. As per the ADA when there are two attendants, one must come out and pump gas for disabled people. She pushed the button but no one came out so she rode her scooter inside. She had difficulty opening the door but once opened she got through only to have the door shut on her arm against her scooter leaving huge bruises. To her dismay there were two attendants inside just watching her and one said “Ouch, that must have hurt, what kind of gas would you like?”! This is totally unacceptable and a reminder that many places need a refresher on these laws. She has contacted the ADA to file a complaint and at our meeting Pat Urie mentioned a recent violation of her own which prompted her to write several people. She wanted us to know that Wally Herger jumped to action immediately and took care of things. That is good for us to know for future reference.

Peggy Singleton is still offering Therapeutic Horseback riding. Visit our website for more information on this. People who have tried it can’t stop smiling and love the way the horse helps their hips to move as well as just the connection to the animal and mobility.

John Shaw brought one of his scooters to show us because it tore down quickly and could be put into small spaces for transport. He was also mentioning how fast it was compared to most scooters. There are things available out there to make our lives easier and we always appreciate hearing about them.

Another reminder about keeping yourself hydrated during these hot summer months. Sometimes it is hard to remember to do it but we had one member who ended up in the hospital due to consequences of lack of hydration! Water is good and Gator Aide is good along with it because it helps to keep electrolytes up. Please remember to down a glass or two during the day.

Again, we discussed the ongoing question of fundraising activities. HOPE4MS is a non profit organization and we can have fundraisers with the profits going directly to our local group to be used for whatever we choose such as yoga, water aerobics, horseback riding, therapy and whatever we want. We just need people to come up with ideas and then run with them. The sky is the limit and we could potentially really make an impact. Let us know if you have any ideas or projects you would like to take on. Maybe we could have scooter races with obstacle courses or something innovative. It would definitely be a fun and rewarding thing to do by putting something together. It is really amazing the good feeling that comes from doing these things….just dream it, make it happen and then revel in the positive impact you have made in this area.

It’s almost as good as a massage…............

Until next time,
