Discussing challenges often brings forth knowledge
that is hidden within each of us. As we went around the table many different topics were discussed that offered insight into some of the challenges faced as well as some of the different therapies used along the way. Once again, everyone is different.
One person explained his year of trying bee sting therapy. While most of us cringed at the thought we were reminded that it was not painful since the stings were applied to numb areas. A small sensation of life awakened the area at least. The therapy was stopped when the carrier would no longer deliver the bees. Marijuana was discussed as a useful therapy and as it turns out many people use or have used it with very positive results as an aid to pain, nausea, anxiety and insomnia. MS qualifies as a disease eligible for a prescription for medical marijuana and a few doctors in town specialize in this.
Another prevalent symptom for some is a constant ringing or noise irritation in the ears The irritation comes from many simple things such as tapping sounds, crinkling of paper, gum popping as well as loud noises as with loud music, children screaming etc. It can be disabling and cause for avoiding going out into the public. There appears to be no remedy other than earplugs or hibernating so if anyone knows of anything useful, we have several people interested.
One lady discussed her recent experience when she was riding her bike and must have blacked out because the next thing she knew she was lying on the ground. She has stopped riding but the blackout is a new mystery.
A very major issue was brought up regarding assistance with showeriing. For some this is not a simple task and requires more than just a handrail to step into and out of the shower. Once in the shower a seat may be available but then knobs, shower heads & shelves are out of reach. It is unfortunate that this hygiene task has become tedious & unsafe for many. It is one of our goals to find information about bathroom options and possible renovations.
Again, long distance travel for medical care was discussed and at this point we really don’t have too many options.
Keep your brain active to keep those neurons moving! Puzzles, crosswords, sudoku, reading, writing and anything else to use your mind will really make a difference in your brain power. I think we have all heard “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” and by using it we keep it healthy.
